Some properties are simply places. Others are opportunities that may never come along again. The King’s on Corner Lake is one of those rare places: a remarkable private retreat in Northwestern Ontario, with approximately 1,100 feet of shoreline, a historic main lodge, guest cabins and an incredible setting surrounded by the Canadian wilderness.
A place like this cannot be told through facts and figures alone. So the man who has loved it since 1964 tells it himself.
“It was built in the forties. There was no electricity here. They would cut trees down and by horse drag them out of the woods, and three people from Finland would peel the logs and build this place. They had a German fireplace builder who came here and made the most magnificent fireplace I’ve ever seen.”
“The guests love the fact that they can have privacy, yet they can all gather in the main lodge if they want and dine together. I’ve had many weddings here. I’ve had countless family reunions here.”
“If the weather isn’t so good I like being in the main lodge. The main lodge is spectacular.”

“We’re surrounded by Crown land, which means there will never be any buildings, never be any people next to us. We only have two or three little cabins on this whole 25 miles of lake frontage, and they’re never here.”
“The privacy that you would get up here is something that really money can’t buy. You could go for days and days and not even see a human being if you didn’t want to.”
The property itself has approximately 1,100 feet of shoreline. Beyond it, Corner Lake is part of a chain of lakes surrounded by Crown land, roughly 25 miles of shoreline to boat, fish and explore. Steven King first came here as a boy in 1964, when it was still Clark’s Camp. The quotes on this page are in his own words.

Fourteen acres and eleven hundred feet of shoreline on Corner Lake, north of Vermilion Bay. The map is live: every dot that follows is a real place with a real drive time.
Vermilion Bay Airport (CKQ7), a registered public-use aerodrome on Blue Lake Road, about two kilometres from the lodge.
Groceries, gas, hardware, sports gear and fishing tackle at the Co-op, which has served the town since 1919, and an LCBO on Highway 17.
The nearest larger centre, with grocery stores, a Walmart, restaurants and a recreation centre.
The next big town, on Lake of the Woods, with everything the little town does not have.
The crossing into International Falls, Minnesota, and the way most American buyers and guests reach the property.
The nearest international airport is Winnipeg Richardson International. The Trans-Canada runs straight there.
“We have 1,100 feet of sandy beachfront, and in this area of the world there are very few sandy beaches at all. Most of the surrounding areas are either rock or clay. This is just special. I don’t know how it happened. Thank God it did.”
“The lake has such a gradual incline that you can walk literally a hundred yards out into the middle of the lake and still not be over your head. It’s a perfect place for children. It’s safe.”
“The lake itself is clear. There’s no traffic on it. I put a beautiful dock into the water so you have plenty of room to sunbathe, and a swimming platform.”

“Two of the guest cabins have stone fireplaces, and all of them have beautiful views. I built decks on every cabin so the guests could come out and sit outside if the weather was nice.”
“Each cabin has its own refrigeration and microwave and coffee makers and everything that a guest would need.”

“The guest cabins are not right on top of you. You can see them from the main lodge and you can walk to them, but there’s space, beautifully, so you don’t have any interaction with the cabin next to you. You’re not going to hear them, you’re not going to see them, unless you want to.”

“The other ones are well maintained and all of them have beautiful views.”
“I’ve had many weddings here, countless family reunions. They love the fact that they can have privacy, yet they can all gather in the main lodge if they want.”

“I have two cabins right three metres off the lake’s edge, which is just fabulous. The second one is the lake house. It’s a fully furnished cabin, right on the water’s edge, and it’s just spectacular to sit in.”
“For years I would spend nights down there. When I wouldn’t stay in my main lodge I would stay down there, just to wake up and have the water three metres from the edge.”

“When I bought it, it needed a lot of love. It needed someone who had the passion and the time and the ability to transform it back to its original state. Not only did we do that, we improved it by tenfold: decks on every cabin, bigger windows, the views that every cabin now has.”
“We took all the power lines and the water lines and buried them, so no matter what happens, if a tree were to fall, you don’t lose power. New roofs. Every log that had any issue, replaced.”
“It’s going to be a turnkey sale. Every linen, all the beds, all the towels. The furniture fits the ambiance of the entire property and everything will be left just as it is today. It’s ready to move into tomorrow.”

“You might ask, well, why in the world would you sell it? Your family loves it, your kids love it, your grandchildren love it. Well, I’m 74 going on 75 years old. I think it’s time to pass it along to somebody, a family or a business, that could really enjoy it as much as I have.”
“Everyone who comes here says the same thing. It’s a slice of heaven. Pictures don’t do it justice. You come here and you’re going to love it.”
